Errors We Make – Part II

Urgency and strong team leadership is needed but not sufficient for major changes.  Sensible vision is the most important part of this equation.  Direction, alignment and inspiration are all vision-dependent.  Without vision we will create time consuming projects that are heading the wrong direction or nowhere at all.

Without a vision to guide the decision making, each and every choice employees face, can melt into a ceaseless debate. The minutest decisions can bring about heated conflicts draining energy and destroying morale.  Inconsequential tactical choices can control the discussions and waste hours of time.

We have seen in many failed attempts where they use the plans and programs trying to replace vision. These usually lack a clear and convincing statement of where the change is leading, hence causing confusion and alienation.

Whenever you cannot describe your vision in five minutes or less that is leading the change, and get a reaction that denotes understanding and interest, you are in for distress.
